GOES-R Mission Patch - Launch Vehicle 5th SLS

Product no.: T103406 Notify when available

Mission patch developed by the 5th SLS Group for support of the GOES-R Mission launched successfully on 19 November 2016 from SLC-41 in Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida aboard a ULA Atlas V 551, the most powerful of the Atlas V family of launch vehicles.  Payload for this mission is a GOES-R next generaion spacecraft in the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) system.  GOES is a weather observation and forecasting system operated by NOAA for Hurricane & other weather forecasting.  This latest series of GOES satellites will extend the life of the weather satellite system through the 2030's.

The GOES-R patch is based on the pronunciation of the mission name, which led to the pun placed on the patch itself.  The pirate theme also resulted in the ship wheel shape of the patch, as well as the pirate ship navigating through the waves in the center of the patch.  Also featured are the 5th SLS's iconic stars, the Atlas logo and the Atlas vehicle number.  The sixteen stars on the sides of the patch are to recognize the sixteen missions that will have been launched in the GOES constellation.  This is despite that "R" is the eighteenth letter in the alphabet - there was no "GOES-G" or GOES-Q" mission.

ECHOSTAR XIX Mission Patch

Product no.: T103407 Notify when available

Mission patch for ECHOSTAR - 19 scheduled to launch 16 December 2016 from Launch Complex 41 in Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.  ECHOSTAR XIX will ride aboard an Atlas V rocket in the 431 configuration (4 meter fairing, 3 solid rocket boosters strapped on to the 1st stage (in addition to the main engine) and a Centaur upper stage with a single engine).  ECHOSTAR XIX is a communications satellite that will be providing high-speed internet to the North American continent.

The Jupiter 2 / EchoStar XIX Patch consists of the planet Jupiter, behind which is the Roman numeral for 2. To match the theme of the patch, the 5 SLS’s iconic stars are stylized in white and red.  At the top of the patch is a satellite made up of 19 “I” characters.

The Eye of Jupiter, also known as the Great Red Spot, is a storm system that has been raging for many decades. This is depicted on the patch and within it is the Atlas logo, which symbolizes our confidence that the Atlas rocket will weather any storms it encounters and deliver the mission into its intended orbit.

WGS-8 Mission Patch - Launch vehicle 5th SLS

Product no.: T103405 Notify when available

Patch created by the 5th SLS support group for the WGS-8 mission scheduled to be launched in December 2016 aboard a Delta IV rocket (5,4) configuration from Space Launch Complex 37 in Cape Canaveral AFS, Florida.  The mission will carry the WGS-8 satellite on board.  The eigth Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite will work with its sister aircraft providing communication services for US armed forces

The WGS-8 mission patch consists of eight mako sharks - the powerful and fearsome aimal the 45th Launch Group has chosen to represent itself - circling in a figure eight as reference to the mission being the eighth in the wideband Global SATCOM constellation.  Also making an appearance in the patch are the colors of the 45th Launch Group, the Delta IV logo, and the chevron from the AFSPC emblem.  Toward the bottom are the 5th Launch Squadron's iconic stars and at the top is a harkening to a tradition in the 5th's patches for the WGS constellation: the stylized mission name

OSIRIS-REx Mission Launch Vehicle Patch - 5th LSL

Product no.: T103404

Patch created by the 5th SLS for the OSIRIS-REx mission launched on September 8, 2016 from Space Launch Complex 41 in Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida

The patch bears the stylized name of the mission as well as the Atlas vehicle number.  Surrounding the vehicle number are two Sabal palm trees, which are examples of the state tree of the great state of Florida from which the mission was launched.  The entity depicted in the upper left side of the patch is the ancient Egyptian diety known as Osiris, lord of transition and regeneration.  Other than holding a place in the name of the mission itself, it is relevant to the purpose of the mission: there is no more apt diety to use on a mission that will, when successfully completed, return a sample of asteroid material back to Earth.  The placement of the 5th SLS's iconic stars between Oriri's gaze and the Atlas logo is intentional and analogizes the way the Air Force's 5th SLS expertise and unique role protect the Atlas launch vehicle from the dangers intrinsic to space launch.

SBRIS GEO-3 Mission Patch 5th SLS

Product no.: T103408

This patch is issued by the 5th Space Launch Squadron for the SBRIS GEO-3 Mission that launched successfuly on 20 January 2017 from Launch Complex 41 in Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida

The patch is emblazoned with the five (5) stars identifying the 5th SLS, the Atlas logo and the tail number for the Atlas 401 rocket that carried the 3rd SBRIS GEO satellite into orbit.

The SBRIS GEO Flight 3 patch is heavily inspired by its predecessor, in which a celestial, sunlit eagle sees an incoming missile with laser like vision.  In this patch, a celestial, sunlit Mako shark sees three incoming missiles with piercing azure clarity.  The 45 LCG has selected the Mako shark to represent itself, and the primary mission of the SBRIS program is missile detection and warning.

The patch contains direct references to the mission itself, the launch vehicle used to deliver it into its intended orbit and the men and women of the 5th Space Launch Squadron

GPS IIF-12 Mission - Launch Vehicle Patch

Product no.: T103379

$7.00

GPS IIf-12 Mission Patch - 5th SLS Support Group.  This patch is issued by the group supporting the Launch Vehicle that will complete the new constellation of 12 GPS satellites.  The mission is named after the Navstar Betelgeuse which is the second brightest star in the Orion constellation.  The patch design is based off of the 1988 Tim Burton movie “BettleJuice” due to its close relationship in pronunciation.  The patch displays a scene in the movie where BettleJuice after being summoned turns his hands into mallets to strike a carnival game called “High Striker”.  This game known to be a measure of strength, is very appropriate for this mission due to the fact of 100% mission success for the GPS IIF block satellites thus far. Instead of a metal ball being shot up to a bell the Atlas V 401 rocket is showed ready to be launched unobstructed up towards space. The Atlas “A” is displayed to represent ULAs efforts and 5 stars represent the 5th Space Launch Squadron.   The Navstar on the top of the patch is a carryover from all GPS IIF-block missions and will also be shown on IIIA-block mission patches as well, a bit of heritage and a salute to the future and the past on this patch. Other design elements include the mission name, the Atlas vehicle number, and “321” for “321 launch”, which inspired the area code of the greater Space Coast region.
