Astronauts Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford flew the Gemini 6 mission Dec. 15-16, 1965. After the failure of their Agena target vehicle to reach orbit, Gemini 7 was pressed into service and launched first. Gemini 6 flew three days after a potentially catastrophic launch pad abort and went on to fly a perfect rendevous mission.
