Astronaut Gordon Cooper rounds out Project Mercury on May 15-16, 1963 by circling Earth 22 times aboard the Faith 7 spacecraft and logging 593,885 miles in 34 hours and 20 minutes. Additional Mercury missions were planned but cancelled in June 1963 so NASA could concentrate on the next program, Project Gemini. NOTE: This patch was designed long after the mission flew and was never approved by the astronauts. It is presented only as a souvenir of the mission.
