Flying aboard Aurora 7, astronaut Scott Carpenter repeated Glenn's three-orbit-flight on May 24, 1962, replacing Deke Slayton, who was originally scheduled for the flight but was grounded for medical reasons. A navigation error resulted in Carpenter splashing down 250 miles off course. NOTE: This patch was designed long after the mission flew and was never approved by the astronauts. It is presented only as a souvenir of the mission.
