The sixth lunar landing mission ended with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on Dec. 19, 1972.

Mission objectives: 3rd human Moon landing.  Mission deemed a "successful failure" after an oxygen tank aboard the Command Module exploded which forced NASA to abort any landing attempt and cut the mission short.  Through the ingenuity, dedication and heroic efforts of all concerned, the crew returned to earth safely.

4 inch embroidered patch issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Apollo 17 Mission to the Moon.  Launched on 7 December 1972 from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A aboard a Saturn V rocket.  Splashed down in the Pacific on 19 December 1972.  This was the final mission for the Apollo Program.

Total mission time was 12 days, 13 hours, 52 minutes
